Elbow pain is common in athletes and it is also a problem that affects many of us who live an active lifestyle.
It can also come about from every day wear and tear, and overuse.
Regenerative Orthopedic therapy may provide a better quality of life for patients with elbow pain or injury who do not respond to standard treatments, want to reduce their dependency on medication, or who are looking for more natural or alternative options to surgery.
Conditions that respond well to regenerative orthopedic elbow treatment include:
- Joint instability
- Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
- Medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow)
The Benefit of Regenerative Orthopedics
Adult stem cells from a patient’s own bone marrow harness the ability of the body to repair itself. Clinical research involving adult stem cell therapy for elbow injuries has shown encouraging results.
At New You Medical Health & Surgery Center, our regenerative medicine experts have observed improvement in many patients’ quality of life following therapy at our clinic for regenerative orthopedic elbow treatment.
Utilizing a patient’s own bone marrow and platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a suitable option for the treatment of elbow pain and elbow injuries due to the cells’ ability to repair and regenerate cartilage, ligaments, and tendons by differentiating into these specialized types of cells. Additionally, stem cells from bone marrow contain substances that have powerful anti-inflammatory properties which may lessen pain and swelling in the joint area.
Platelet rich plasma, or PRP is used in conjunction with adult stem cells to improve the treatment result. PRP uses the healing growth factors found in your own blood to initiate connective tissue healing and provide a more robust and favorable healing environment.
Patients have reported the following benefits for elbow pain or injury:
- Reduced joint pain
- Improved range of motion
- Avoidance of surgery
- Better mobility
- Increased strength
- Less reliance on OTC medications
- Reduced inflammation
Our goal is to provide our patients customized care and individualized treatment strategies based on their overall health. Our regenerative treatments have the potential to improve the quality of life for our patients suffering with elbow pain or elbow injury.
These procedures are same-day outpatient procedures which take place at our accredited surgery center.
The treatment consists of a bone marrow extraction from the patient’s hip by board certified physicians. Also, a small blood sample is drawn from a vein in your arm.
Using well established protocols and processing methods, the stem cells are concentrated from bone marrow by experienced lab technicians in our onsite laboratory. The blood sample is processed to concentrate the healing growth factors. The stem cell and PRP are then injected into the elbow using ultrasound guidance. This ensures that the exact location of injury is treated. The procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours from start to finish. Follow-up visits to monitor progress occur one month, three months, and six months following treatment.
